In Light of Uber Car Accident: Self-Driving Car Revealed in NY

Posted on March 27, 2018

We all heard about the accident that took place in Tempe, Arizona involving a self-driving Uber vehicle. On the night of March 18, the 44-year-old driver behind the wheel for emergency purposes took her hands away from the wheel right before the car struck Elaine Herzberg, a 49-year-old with her bike. The Uber vehicle was traveling about 40 miles per hour and struck Herzberg, who was killed instantly.

Now, the first autonomous car has been revealed in New York, and it’s a Jaguar. As the investigation into the Uber crash is still ongoing, Waymo and Google will be working to put the self-driving vehicles on public roads this year. Many people have felt a lack of confidence in self-driving tech ever since the accident, and want to make sure that safety is always a top priority.

The Jaguar I-Pace, the vehicle meant to hit New York’s roads, is supposed to be the world’s first premium self-driving vehicle. Many people are excited, while others are a bit scared about the idea. We will have to see what the future brings and what this means for those who have been injured or killed in these types of accidents.
