A private Queens Ambulette driver hit a pedestrian this past week in an accident while the pedestrian was trying to cross the street. The woman was identified as a 57-year-old woman and was hit in the early morning while the Ambulette was trying to negotiate a turn. The accident left the pedestrian unconscious and left her in critical condition.
61-year-old Ivan Rybiy, the driver of the ambulette, remained at the scene until he was arrested. Now he is facing charges of failing to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise a duty of care. The ambulette company, All Around Trans, would not comment about the accident.
All drivers who share our roadways owe pedestrians a special duty of care to keep them safe from harm. Pedestrians might not always be paying close attention to the roadways, which is why it is up to drivers to constantly watch out for those who could be crossing the street or walking alongside traffic.
